Thoughts for today : No Wii fit yet today. Yesterday I did about an hour of running so when I got back I didn't have the energy. I really probably should have though as I'd had, for the first time in a while, some fish 'n' chips. They were bloody good too but for some reason I swear they had melted butter poured over some sections. I don't mean taste-wise, I could literally see little pools of butter. Workout Running - 60 mins Guitar & Singing - 30 mins Wank - 15 mins Last Saturday, I went to see Spamalot at the Palace theatre near Regent Street (off of Monopoly!). I even saw Park Lane, actually, which was quite exciting, although it wasn't even slightly dark blue which was a dissapointment. It was a visit made because of my sister visiting so we were hanging out in London more than just visiting for the show. We went to a Korean restaurant before the pub before the show and I had really unexpectedly thick dark black bean noodles and pork. I could see any colour other than black. It was almost as sad looking as the tar pit scene in Land Before Time. The whole thing was almost completely flavoured by it to, which was a much more coffee-like taste than any other black bean sauce I've ever tasted. I would have said something but it's always the same if it's not a food you know much about, you might offend someone's wife/food-god. Rachel's meal was actually pretty good. She let me have some of hers after i moaned about my coffee noodle gloop. Her's was chicken, curry and rice and was actually really nicely presented and tasted pretty much perfect. Cripsy chicken batter, juicy chicken, slightly chop shop-like curry sauce but it all went well. Wait, this is a review of a musical, right... We got tickets at one of the reduced box offices and managed to get two stall seats (ground floor) for £35 each. That's cheap, apparently, as full price would have been £60 each. If you think about it too narrow-mindedly, you might compare it to a cinema viewing and think it's a rip-off but you hardly see all your movie stars actually performing it for real in one go. The theatre has that exciting daring you rarely experience in cinema as the long single-camera shot. It takes balls. Then again, kids do it for school plays and I've done a production or two and they were easy...Hmmm.... The actual show then. Sanjeev Bhaskar plays King Arthur and performs the comedy side of his role perfectly. I'm not so sure about his singing. He can sing really well but he seems less confident than the rest of the cast. Just his volume is really missing but it seems to make a noticeable difference. He also replaces the original person who played Arthur who was from some soap and apparently, according to Roland from work who even visited the ZSL Zoo the same weekend (~spooky~ *waves arms like a zombie*), shit. Bhaskar definitely wasn't shit and byt the sounds of things added a lot more to the role than mr soap-face. The songs are all funny and I did laugh out loud at all of them. It seems odd to look back on it as it all made sense at the time but I was genuinly laughing all of the way through. It does follow the story of the Python movie 'Monty Python and The Holy Grail' but with many bits cut and many other bits added. I think it may be because it was written by the python who wrote most songs so he could only write around those then add any other python songs to fill out the story. Crap, those sentences sounded very GCSE. Due to the musical being created this way, you can see the fan service soming a mile off but it's all very well received and everyone knows that they're there for python, music and clever slap-stick. (well, not clever but all us adults were laughing so we can pretend) The other side to the play apart from it's blatant flogging of it's own un-dead material is that it actually stes out to take the piss out of musicals. This was my favourite angle to the whole thing (aswell as a certain black knight) and it was all played perfectly. When you have singers as good as they have and many extra songs as perfectly written to satirise the very song it's self, lines like 'this is the song that sounds like this', you are drawn in and laughing from outside of your enjoyment at the whole farse. Much much fun. Well, that review is far too long. Hope it helps someone decide to watch it. I'd say it's definitely worth the £30 if you have it but it may seem to go by quickly if you're throwing £60 each at it. 4 / 5 This is the bit of my blog that sounds like this, - Daniel |
